1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Early literacy is one of the greatest gifts any child can receive. For this reason, it is critical that parents expose their wee ones to as many books as possible before they reach kindergarten. 1000BooksBeforeKindergarten.org is organization that challenges parents to read 1,000 books before their little one begins school. Check your local public library to see if they are participating in this wonderful program!

As a new parent, I'm taking on the challenge! I accept the challenge to read 1,000 books and will keep track of what we have read before she skips off to school in a few short (and I mean REALLY short) years. I am going to keep a journal of what we have read and plan to give the journal to her when she is older so that she, too, can keep track of all of the wonderful books she has read. Here we go! Happy reading! :)

Here's my Lil Librarian going BANANAS over her Pinkalicious library book!! I'm not kidding! She went nuts when I gave it to her. :)

Are you looking for some great summer reading programs? Check out what's going on around the town with some great summer reading programs offered by the Sonntag Library, Frisco ISD Libraries, Frisco Public Library, the McKinney Public Library, Scholastic, and Barnes & Noble. Happy reading! :)

Stop by the Sonntag library any time this week to pick up your summer reading log. If you read 10 books this summer, add the titles of the books to your log. Don't forget to return your completed log to the library in August. Students who turn in a completed log will receive a brand new book!

I hope you all had a fantastic break! I had a restful and exciting break but I am so happy to be back!

Did anyone make a New Years resolution? I know they are often hard to keep (I know this FIRST hand) but this year I am going to make a tangible New Years resolution that will not only benefit me but it will [most importantly] benefit the readers at my school and beyond. I plan to read 100 books this year. Whew! That seems like a tall order! I was inspired by my former fearless leader Dr. Leigh Ann Jones who has also made this goal for herself. Check out her post here

I am so excited about this challenge! If you want to follow the books I read or see how far I am in my challenge, check out my GoodReads site here. If you have any suggestions please let me know!

I hope you have a wonderful New Year! Happy reading! :)
