Attention Sonntag Readers!!!!!! Battle of the Books is back!!!!!!!!!

The books that will duke it out were chosen because they were the most requested and/or placed on hold the most often throughout the school year. Students, teachers, and parents may vote on the Round 1 match-ups as many times as they wish until the end of the school day on May 5th. That day, the votes will be counted and the winning books will move on to Round 2.

Summer Reading Programs 2K13!

Do you love to read? Summer is the PERFECT time to catch up on some great reads. There are a TON of wonderful reading programs out there that are designed for students of all ages. Stop by the Sonntag library any time before school ends to pick up your summer reading log. Logs will also be sent home with students the last week of school. If you read 10 books this summer, add the titles of the books to your log. Don't forget to return your completed log to the library in August. Students who turn in a completed log will receive a brand new book!

Welcome back, Sonntag Peeps!!! It is so great to see you again! We hope your summer was amazing!

This week the Sonntag students will celebrate Children's Book Week! There are fun activities planned for students and teachers to enjoy. Students will not only get to visit the library for a special, grade-specific read-aloud but they will also have the opportunity to read outside, participate in drawings for new books, as well as hear a mystery book read by me, Mrs. Mattei, during "Mrs. Mattei's Masterpiece Theater!" 

Today's Sonntag Celebrates Children's Book Week activities included the announcement of the 2nd annual bookmark contest winners as well as "Read Across Sonntag." The students truly enjoyed these activities. Check out the winners of the bookmark contest:

The winners of the bookmark contest received a brand new book, bookmark, as well as had their original bookmark creations copied for the students across Sonntag. Also, check out some pictures from "Read Across Sonntag:"

On April 14, 1912, the maiden voyage of the great Titanic tragically struck an iceberg and sank to the bottom of the north Atlantic sea. Even 100 years later, the once believed unsinkable ocean liner still fascinates people of all ages. The students of Sonntag are no exception. Students from Kindergarten through 5th grade (as well as their librarian) have shown a tremendous interest in learning about the Titanic and the people who traveled on this ship. Even though the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic isn't until April, student interest inspired Mrs. Mattei to create a display for students to learn more about this amazing ship. I hope you all had a fantastic break! I had a restful and exciting break but I am so happy to be back! 

Did anyone make a New Years resolution? I know they are often hard to keep (I know this FIRST hand) but this year I am going to make a tangible New Years resolution that will not only benefit me but it will [most importantly] benefit the readers at my school and beyond. I plan to read 100 books this year. Whew! That seems like a tall order! I was inspired by my former fearless leader Dr. Leigh Ann Jones who has also made this goal for herself.  - Origami Yoda? In Frisco? -

You heard it right, Peeps!!! Tom Angleberger, the author of The Strange Case of Origami Yoda visited the Barnes & Noble in the Stonebriar Mall in Frisco on Tuesday, August 23!! It was an amazing experience and he even taught us how to make our own Origami Yodas!! Mr. Angleberger was also promoting his new book Darth Paper Strikes Back. He even signed Sonntag's 3 copies of The Strange Case of Origami Yoda!! WWWEEEE!!! Check out some of the pictures I took during his book signing!
