Book of the Day by Mrs. Mattei!!!

I love fairy tales with a twist or with unique characters. If you do, too, then the book of the day is just for you! Happy reading! :)

by Charlotte Guillain
A simplified version of the familiar tale featuring a young poodle who has been lost in the woods then finds shelter in a palace where, by feeling a pea through many blankets, she proves that she is a real princess. Includes a note on the history of the tale.

Six Flags Read to Succeed 2K14!

Attention all Sonntag Readers! The Six Flags Read to Succeed program has arrived again and is in full swing! You should have received your parent letter as well as your reading logs. If you need another copy, please see your teacher or stop by the library at any time.

It's simple! Read for 6 hours or 360 minutes, track your reading minutes on your log, have your parents sign your log, and return your log to your teacher on or before the due date.

All completed & signed reading logs are due to your teacher by Friday, February 21st in order to receive your FREE Six Flags ticket (one per student/log & Sonntag students only). No exceptions on late logs can be made because of the rules set forth by Six Flags.

Please note that it takes a few weeks for the tickets to be processed. The tickets usually arrive by May. If you have any questions or need a new copy of the official reading log, please email Mrs. Mattei at matteie@friscoisd.org or click here for more information. Happy reading! :)

1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Early literacy is one of the greatest gifts any child can receive. For this reason, it is critical that parents expose their wee ones to as many books as possible before they reach kindergarten. 1000BooksBeforeKindergarten.org is organization that challenges parents to read 1,000 books before their little one begins school. Check your local public library to see if they are participating in this wonderful program!

As a new parent, I'm taking on the challenge! I accept the challenge to read 1,000 books and will keep track of what we have read before she skips off to school in a few short (and I mean REALLY short) years. I am going to keep a journal of what we have read and plan to give the journal to her when she is older so that she, too, can keep track of all of the wonderful books she has read. Here we go! Happy reading! :)

Here's my Lil Librarian going BANANAS over her Pinkalicious library book!! I'm not kidding! She went nuts when I gave it to her. :)

Click here to find out more about this great challenge as well as printable reading logs for you and your little one.
